Carers’ Wellbeing Service Launches Monthly Coffee and Cake Club for Relaxation and Fun.

The Carers’ Wellbeing Service (Making Space) has launched a brand-new Coffee and Cake Club, giving our carers and the person they care for across the borough that much-needed few hours of relaxation and fun.

The Cake Club, which is based at the Age UK Wellbeing Centre at Rimani House in Halifax, runs monthly and is an afternoon filled with delicious cakes, good company, entertainment, as well as appropriate sign-posting and information.

The Carers Wellbeing Service supports individuals throughout Calderdale over the age of 18 who are unpaid carers, intending to better their quality of life by combatting the isolation and loneliness being a carer can sometimes bring.

During the Cake Club, aside from the lovely cakes and unlimited tea and coffee served in the finest China, visitors have lots of fun competing for little prizes, playing games of bingo and joining teams to do the quiz.

For some, this is their only opportunity to get out of the house and engage with others aside from the person they care for, in a place where they do not fear judgement and can be honest about their thoughts and feelings and be understood.

The Carers Wellbeing Service also promote awareness campaigns such as Good Sleep Week.

Unpaid carers often struggle with sleep deprivation which sadly impacts their mental health and wellbeing.

During Good Sleep Week, Cake Club attendees and volunteers came dressed to impress in their cosiest attire and held a raffle to win a hamper full of goodies for a restful night’s sleep to raise awareness of the importance of good sleep and raise funds for unpaid carers.

The Carers Wellbeing Service have lots of services and activities available and has recently started a 6-week Carers Can Can dance workshop with Rebecca Slaven from IMT Forever CIC.
