The TRU Community Fund is returning for its second year in a row, and to provide information about how you can apply.

This year, TRU is offering £250,000 to support local community projects and help you create or improve vital indoor and outdoor spaces. The funding is available in grants of £1,000, £5,000, £10,000 and £20,000.

Applications will open on 6th October and close on 27th October 2025. Please note that if we receive a high number of applications, we may need to shut the application window early.

To be eligible, your cause must be located within a five-mile radius of the Transpennine Route Upgrade, or within five miles of the Shipley Traincare Centre – a key TRU worksite. You can check that you are within the five-mile radius using this map.

Neighbourly

This year, applications will be made via Neighbourly, an award-winning giving platform and a free tool for charities and community organisations.

To be eligible to apply, you must have an account for your good cause on the Neighbourly platform, as the application process will be managed exclusively through Neighbourly.

Next steps

Please register your cause on Neighbourly here before October 6th to get a head start. It only takes a few minutes to register, is completely free and will allow your organisation to access additional support via Neighbourly. This includes receiving volunteers, surplus food/product donations and additional funding opportunities.

The online dashboard will keep you and your colleagues up to date on the latest member opportunities, training and news.

The Member Area also has a forum function, allowing VAC Member organisations to interact and support each other.

A quarterly newsletter to keep our members up to date on not only VAC Membership updates and opportunities but also specifically created content on topics of interest to the local voluntary, community and social enterprise sector. 

The Bimonthly Member Network is for VAC Members to connect with other VAC Members!
