As part of the upcoming changes under the Economic Crime and Corporate Transparency Act 2023, Companies House will soon require identity verification for all company directors, which may include charity trustees who are listed as directors for charitable companies.
Under the new legislation, all directors (including charity trustees), will be required to verify their identity with Companies House. This will apply to both existing and newly appointed directors, and also to anyone filing information on behalf of the company. The requirements are expected to become mandatory from late 2025.
If this applies to you, please note that Directors will need to verify their identity either:
- Through a GOV.UK One Login process using official ID, or
- Via an Authorised Corporate Service Provider (ACSP) (e.g. a solicitor or accountant registered with Companies House).
Failure to verify may result in filings being rejected and could lead to penalties or disqualification from office.
