Based beside the River Calder, the club has welcomed generations of players and families to its ground at the Arches. From children picking up a bat for the first time to long-standing senior players, Copley has always offered a warm, family-friendly space where everyone is welcome.
A Club Shaped by Challenge
Over the years, the club has faced significant challenges, particularly from flooding. Its location next to the river means it’s been hit hard by extreme weather, including devastating flash floods in 2012, just months after a major pavilion renovation.
Further serious floods followed in December 2015 and February 2020, causing huge disruption, damage to facilities, and temporary closures. But thanks to the determination of its members, volunteers, and wider community, the club has always bounced back.

Each time, they have come together to clean up, repair damage and raise the funds needed to get back on their feet. The club’s ability to rebuild, not just once, but repeatedly, is a true reflection of its community’s strength and commitment.
Supporting Young People and Inclusion
Copley Cricket Club puts young people at the centre of what it does. As a proud member of the Halifax Junior Cricket League, the club runs a busy junior programme for boys and girls from Under 9s through to Under 18s.
Coaches and volunteers work hard to make cricket fun, supportive and accessible, helping young people to build skills, confidence, and a sense of belonging.
In 2012, the club launched South Halifax Girls, the first all-girls cricket team in Calderdale. Since then, it’s grown into a key part of the club, now called Copley Comets, giving women and girls a space to play, thrive and lead within the sport.
In 2022, the club became a Disability Champion Club and offers cricket opportunities for young people with a disability ages 9-15 years old.
Copley also runs three senior teams, creating opportunities for adults of all ages to stay active and socialise through sport.
More Than Cricket
Copley Cricket Club is more than just a cricket ground. It’s a hub for the community.
Helen Hoyle, Chair of the Club, commented:
“At Copley Cricket Club, we strive to provide an enjoyable and safe place for people of all ages to be involved in the game of cricket. We focus on developing junior players, women & girls’ cricket and young people with disabilities. Our modern and fully accessible facilities are an ideal place to engage in playing and watching cricket, as well as to hire for weddings, funeral teas, birthday parties, anniversaries, meetings, training and exercise classes.”

The club’s pavilion includes two fully accessible event rooms, available for hire when matches aren’t taking place. These spaces are regularly used by a local day service, youth groups and other community organisations, helping to keep the club at the centre of village life.
The club also welcomes sponsorship from local businesses, offering a way for companies to support grassroots sport while giving back to the community.
Whether you’re looking for a welcoming place to play, a family club to support, or a venue to hire for your group or party, Copley Cricket Club is open to all.
