Northern Powergrid is offering grants of up to £20,000 per project for charities, community interest companies (CICs), and charitable incorporated organisations (CIOs) across Northwest England, Yorkshire, and Northern Lincolnshire to deliver energy resilience initiatives in communities served by Northern Powergrid.
Funding will support projects that help communities remain safe and operational during emergencies, such as power outages or severe weather. Eligible activities may include:
- Energy resilience measures, such as the installation of solar panels with battery storage, backup generators, emergency power hook-up points, or the creation or enhancement of community hubs tht can remain open during emergencies.
- Energy efficiency improvements (as part of a wider resilience project), such as draughtproofing, or the installation of minor inulsation, LED lighting, or efficient heating controls.
For this funding round, the Foundation is particularly keen to support projects that strengthen community resilience by helping community spaces remain open and operational during emergencies, such as severe weather events or prolonged power outages.
To apply, groups must have an annual income of less than £500,000 and have been operating for at least a year. Groups can apply for projects exceeding £20,000 if match funding has been secured or if they demonstrate that organisational reserves can cover the funding gap.
