Consultation for the 26/27 Police Precept is now live.
The Mayor is responsible for setting the annual budget for West Yorkshire Police. This includes agreeing the local police precept – the part of the council tax that helps to fund local policing. West Yorkshire’s commitment to restore visible, community-focused policing across the region was made possible by your support and funding which they gratefully received last year.

The Government has announced that a precept equivalent to an annual £15 on Band D households can be set. Despite using reserves, not filling staff vacancies, and the efficiency programme, West Yorkshire Police is facing a funding gap of almost £10 million next year despite taking measures to reduce it. Funds raised by an increased precept would cut this by almost £3.5 million, moving us towards a stronger financial position where they can maintain the police service they need to keep communities safe, just and inclusive.
Please take this opportunity to have your say on police funding next year by completing the online survey(External link).(External link)
