About the Role:
West Yorkshire Police is seeking an Interim Independents Chair for it’s Professional Standards Scrutiny Panel, a vital role in promoting transparency, accountability, and public confidence in police conduct and vetting decisions. The panel meets quarterly via Microsoft Teams and comprises representatives from staff networks, associations, and community stakeholders. The Chair will lead discussions around the assessment and outcomes of conduct investigations and vetting decisions, ensuring scrutiny and challenge are embedded in PSD decision-making.
Key Responsibilities:
Chair quarterly Scrutiny Panel meetings. Facilitate open and constructive discussions on conduct and vetting assessments and outcomes. Provide independent oversight and challenge PSD decision-making processes. Ensure transparency and fairness in internal investigations. Act as a conduit for staff networks and associations to critically assess and communicate outcomes to their members. Promote public interest and confidence in the integrity of the police service.
Essential Criteria:
Experience in chairing meetings or panels in a professional or public sector setting. Strong understanding of governance, scrutiny, or regulatory frameworks. Excellent communication and facilitation skills. Ability to challenge constructively and promote transparency.
Desirable Criteria:
Knowledge of police conduct regulations or public sector ethics. Experience working with diverse communities or staff networks. Understanding of issues relating to vetting, misconduct, and public confidence.
