Calderdale Citizens Advice can offer a multitude of services.
They can visit your group (staff, volunteers and/or service users) and provide an energy awareness session to help people understand what help they can get and where it can be found. This would provide support with the following:
- Advice on energy efficiency measures, behavioral change and money saving tips, including grants available such as Energy Company Obligation (ECO).
- Financial assistance to be spent towards energy bills, e.g. Household Support Fund.
- Support to households that are particularly at risk of fuel poverty or in emergency situations. This includes access to fuel vouchers and referral to food banks/social supermarkets.
- Understanding tariffs, bills and fuel options including switching methods.
- Raising awareness of the Warm Home Discount (WHD) and the Priority Services Register.
As a follow on from the group sessions (or as a standalone) they can provide any interested individuals with a more personalised cost of living advice session, either a face-to-face appointment or telephone/video call from their energy advisor at a pre-booked time. The adviser will discuss a whole range of Cost-of-Living support including:
- Energy savings, understanding bills, applications to energy trusts.
- Water bill support.
- Charitable applications.
- Social tariffs (cheaper phone/broadband).
- A benefit check.
- They will also discuss the dangers of Carbon Monoxide and can organise one free of charge for those who do not currently have one.
They can also arrange to come in to your organisations to do the 1:1 sessions via as more of a drop-in if you think there is likely to be sufficient interest.
