The Charles Plater Trust, a Catholic grant-making charity, has opened its 2024 small grants programme to applications in England.

The Trust wants to encourage three different types of change through its funding support: 

  • ‍Change for individuals – achieving significant change for individuals who are the most marginalised in the UK today.
  • Change for organisations – enhancing the capacity of organisations to respond more effectively to social needs.
  • Change for wider society – generating social or systemic change through policy or practice change.

The Trust offers small grants of up to £5,000 to deliver projects that meet one of the following themes:

  • Leadership for lay people. Projects that deepen the awareness of Catholic Social Teaching and Catholic Social Thought to better equip people to take on leadership roles in tackling poverty, exclusion, economic inequality and environmental concerns.
  • Social Action. Projects that deliver tangible outcomes to tackle poverty, exclusion, economic inequality and environmental concerns for marginalised people and communities.

Charities with an annual income below £100,000 can apply.

Commenting on the new round, Bishop Richard Moth, chair of The Charles Plater Trust said:

“The principle of subsidiarity at the heart of Catholic social teaching means we want to foster greater local decision-making and community empowerment. After the recent riots in England, we must continue to work towards a more tolerant society – and so we want to extend our support to the many grassroots charities who are working tirelessly in this space.”

The Trust also offers a large grants programme which is expected to open for applications in January 2025.

The deadline for small grant applications is 10 October 2024 (17:00).

The Member Area also has a forum function, allowing VAC Member organisations to interact and support each other.

A quarterly newsletter to keep our members up to date on not only VAC Membership updates and opportunities but also specifically created content on topics of interest to the local voluntary, community and social enterprise sector. 

The Bimonthly Member Network is for VAC Members to connect with other VAC Members!

A perfect opportunity to support one another, find out about other local services and explore new collaborative opportunities and partnerships with fellow VAC members.
